Kiosk mode transforms VisiConnect into a self-service check-in station. Visitors can check themselves in using a tablet or touchscreen device, reducing wait times and freeing up your greeters for personal interaction.

Setting Up Kiosk Mode

Hardware Requirements

Kiosk mode works on any device with a web browser:

  • iPad or Android tablet (most common)
  • Laptop or desktop computer with touchscreen
  • Standard laptop or desktop (with mouse/keyboard)

For the best experience, use a tablet mounted on a stand or kiosk enclosure near your entrance.

Enabling Kiosk Mode

  1. Navigate to Settings > Check-in Settings.
  2. Find the Kiosk Mode section.
  3. Toggle Enable Kiosk Mode to ON.
  4. Configure kiosk settings (see below).
  5. Click Save Settings.

Accessing the Kiosk Interface

Once enabled, the kiosk interface is available at:

https://your-visiconnect-url.com/kiosk

Bookmark this URL on your kiosk device for quick access. The kiosk interface is separate from the staff check-in panel and is designed for visitor self-service.

Kiosk Settings

Customize the kiosk experience with these options:

Welcome Message

Set a custom welcome message that appears on the kiosk home screen. Examples:

  • "Welcome to Grace Church!"
  • "First time here? Check in below!"
  • "Welcome! Please sign in to help us connect with you."

Default Service Type

Choose which service type is pre-selected for kiosk check-ins. This is typically your main worship service.

Required Fields

Specify which fields new visitors must complete. You can require just name and contact info, or add additional fields like address or how they heard about you.

Privacy Consent

Optionally require visitors to agree to a privacy statement before checking in. This is recommended for GDPR and data protection compliance.

How Visitors Use the Kiosk

  1. Welcome Screen: The visitor sees your welcome message and a Check In button.
  2. Search: They enter their name or phone number. If they've visited before, their record is retrieved.
  3. New Visitor Form: If no match is found, they fill in their information.
  4. Service Selection: They confirm or select the service they're attending.
  5. Confirmation: The kiosk displays a welcome message and, optionally, a confirmation code.

Kiosk Mode Security

Kiosk mode is designed with security in mind:

  • Visitors can only access their own information.
  • The kiosk cannot view other visitor records.
  • Administrative functions are not available in kiosk mode.
  • Session timeout automatically logs out after a period of inactivity.

Offline Mode

If your internet connection is unreliable, enable PWA offline mode. The kiosk can continue checking in visitors without an internet connection and syncs data when connectivity is restored. See PWA Offline Mode for setup instructions.

Tip: Place a small sign next to the kiosk with simple instructions: "First time? Tap Check In and fill out your info. Returning? Enter your phone number." This helps visitors feel confident using the kiosk.

Monitoring Kiosk Activity

All kiosk check-ins appear in your visitor database just like staff-entered check-ins. The source is marked as "Kiosk" so you can filter and analyze kiosk usage separately if needed.
